Design Build

Your land. Your plans or ours. One team from the first sketch to the day you move in.

Woodcraft Design Co. is a family-owned design-build firm on Colorado's Front Range. We build ground-up custom homes, bring older houses back to life, and make the staircases, timberwork and cabinetry that go inside them. The same people design it, price it and build it.

And we don't have to design the project to build it. Bring your architect's drawings and we will build them on your lot, or help you find the land to put them on.

Design-build
custom homes

A home built for one family, on one piece of land, with nothing borrowed from a catalogue of floor plans. Stone, heavy timber, steel and glass where the view is. We are limited only by the imagination of our clients and the ground they build on.

Design-build means our architectural designer and our builder sit at the same table from the first conversation. The plan you fall in love with is a plan we can price honestly and build well, and the person who designed your home is the one standing in it on the last day.

  • Lot evaluation, feasibility and site costs
  • Architecture, engineering and permitting
  • Architectural designer on every project
  • Itemized estimate from the actual drawings
  • In-house carpentry, timberwork and cabinetry
  • Owner on site, final walk-through, warranty

Already have plans?

We don't have to design the project to build it.

We build from client-supplied drawings regularly. Bring the set from your architect and we will build it on your existing lot, or walk land with you before you buy and tell you what a given site will really cost to build on.

A ground-up ranch estate carried from first sketch to final walk-through. Stone, heavy timber and a great room held up by exposed trusses, with a resort pool, an outdoor pavilion built around its own fireplace, and every piece of millwork run in our shop rather than ordered in.

Timber, stucco, steel

A 1950 house on a Boulder hillside, sitting on one of the best views in town and no longer able to use it. Taken back to the studs, rebuilt, and reopened to the Flatirons: heavy timber trusses, white stucco, black standing seam, and glass where the view is.

The Process

Consult. Design. Estimate. Build.

Design comes first, so the number means something. Four steps, in order, so you always know what happens next and who is responsible.

  1. 01

    Consult

We start with a conversation: your land or the one you are looking for, your plans if you have them, how you live, and what the budget needs to do. If it is a remodel, this is where we walk and measure the house.

  2. 02

    Design

Our architectural designer draws the home, inside and out: plan, elevations, structure, materials and finishes, worked out with you rather than handed to you. Already have drawings from your architect? We build from those.

  3. 03

    Estimate

Design comes first so the number means something. You get an itemized estimate built from the actual drawings, and you sign off on both before anything is ordered or built.

  4. 04

    Build

The team that designed it builds it. One point of contact, regular updates, the owner on site, and a final walk-through that is not finished until your list is empty.

02 · Transform

Renovations,
remodels &
additions

Some houses are worth keeping and not worth leaving alone. You keep what earns its place, the lot, the view, the bones, and we rebuild the rest to a new-construction standard: structure, systems, envelope, floor plan and finish.

That can mean a restoration that stays faithful to the period, a whole-home remodel that opens the plan up, a second story or addition, a kitchen and primary bath done properly, or an outdoor living space that makes the yard part of the house.

Before & After

Drag to compare

The same hillside, seventy years apart.

1450 High St in Boulder went from dated stucco and a tired deck to timber trusses, standing seam and a west wall of glass, without ever leaving its lot.

  • Renovations & restorations

Systems, envelope, windows, roofing and a full finish refresh on a house with good bones.

  • Whole-home remodels

Moving bearing walls, opening plans, adding square footage and second stories.

  • Kitchens & baths

Gut-outs and rebuilds with cabinetry and vanities made in our own shop.

  • Outdoor living

Decks, pergolas, pavilions and the fireplace that makes them usable in October.

03 · In the Shop

Custom carpentry
& cabinetry

This is the work that started Woodcraft, and it still sets our homes apart. Staircases, timberwork, cabinetry and fireplaces are built by our own carpenters, in our own shop, so the structure and the finish come from the same hands.

  • Custom oak staircase with square newel posts

    Staircases

White oak, steel and traditional newel-post stairs, railings and loft rails, built and installed by our own carpenters.

  • Blackened steel truss plate on heavy timber

    Timberwork

Exposed trusses, beams, coffered and wood ceilings, mantels and blackened-steel connections. The structure becomes the finish.

  • Wet bar with floating walnut shelves and white cabinetry

    Cabinetry

Kitchens, vanities, built-ins and bars made start to finish in our shop, in face-frame, frameless or inset construction.

  • Shiplap fireplace with timber mantel and raised hearth

    Fireplaces

Stone, shiplap and tile surrounds, raised hearths and reclaimed timber mantels, from a gut-out to the final coat.

Construction

Face frame, frameless or inset boxes. Shaker, craftsman, slab or raised-panel doors, each in the finish of your choice.

Drawers

Dovetail drawers in solid maple or plywood are our standard. Hardwood-veneer plywood or melamine boxes are available where budget calls for it.

Finishes

Stained to show the grain, or painted in premium paint: our favorites, your color, or a match to something you already love.

Already have the cabinetry and need an installer? We install cabinets we did not build, with the same care we give our own.

About Woodcraft

Thirty years in the trade. One name on the work.

Timber window detail at 1450 High St

Jot Tucker grew up in construction. His father was a contractor and custom home builder, and the trade passed down the way it usually does: on a jobsite, early, with a tape measure in hand.

Since 2010 Jot has owned and operated his own custom construction businesses in Texas, Tennessee and Colorado, building everything from ground-up estates to full rebuilds of houses older than he is. Woodcraft Design Co., founded in 2019, is the current chapter: a small, family-owned design-build firm working Colorado's Front Range and the mountains beyond it.

Why one team matters

In a traditional project, an architect draws something, a contractor prices it, and the two argue about what is possible while you wait. Design-build removes the hand-off.

Our architectural designer and our carpenters work from the same drawings, under the same roof. Selections get made with real pricing in front of you. Change orders are rare. And the person who designed your build is the one standing in it on the last day.

  • Relationships first

A house reflects how a specific family lives. We spend the time up front to understand that.

  • Craftsmanship

The parts you never see are built to the same standard as the parts you do.

  • Straight answers

Real numbers early, change orders in writing, and a builder who tells you when an idea will not work.

Jot and his team were amazing! They totally transformed my living room by helping me design a fireplace, custom built tables, and created a beautiful hearth and surround. Their designer, Tawney, worked with me to make a design and Jot and his team brought it to life. Their craftsmanship is superb and Jot was communicative and collaborative the whole time. I can't imagine a better experience and outcome.

Chloe K. · Homeowner

  • “Jot was great to work with. He is very skilled and detailed and offers good design suggestions. He custom built a floating dual sink vanity. Did great work with the tile. As with any project, there were a few delays but he communicated well during those times.”

    Scott J. · Homeowner

  • “I worked with this business for a home remodeling and they show up on time and the work looks great.”

    Scott T. · Homeowner

  • “Pragmatic, hard working, honest, and very experienced.”
